(1) Not every impoverished person is of (recent) African descent.

(2) Not every person is poor because of stupidity or laziness. And there is no statistical relationship between "laziness" and poverty.

(3) There are many literate people in poverty.

(4) Since we've already thrown out stupidity and laziness, what other reasons can you come up with for illiteracy in impoverished other than inability to afford education and/or the resources to be properly educated?
