Hot town, summer in the city

Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty

Been down, isn't it a pity

Doesn't seem to be a shadow in the city

All around, people looking half dead

Walking on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head

But at night it's a different world

Go out and find a girl

Come-on come-on and dance all night

Despite the heat it'll be alright

The TV stations back then didn't think the bands could perform as well as they're recordings so they played the record and let them lip-sync to it. After Jim Morrison sang the actual lyrics to I believe it was "lite my fire" which he promised not to do on the Ed Sullivan show, the stations didn't trus "us" Rock and Rollers too much. After all, we were all long haired "pot smoking" hippies to them. Guess we show'd em. lol. I'm 65 and was there for all of it. Take it from there.

This is like one of the greatest songs in the history of rock and roll.

With no amps, no cables, and phantom honking and jack-hammer : this show clearly was not concerned with maintaining the illusion of a live performance. Worse, they cut the powerful ending: typical lame-ass crap TV production. But the biggest mystery:John Sebastian is playing an electric keyboard that is not plugged in, therefore he can't hear what he's playing - so why is he focusing so much of his attention on his keyboard??? Habit? Nervous? Or just goofin' on this farce?
