Here is a good example of the quality of old products. New products these days don't even come close. All the appliances shown are Kenmores.

  • Stop overloading your washer and the drive coupling wont break. I've replaced many of these parts. And after seeing how much laundry people put in these machines, I can see why.

  • @themaytagrepairman Thanks for the advice but you have to admit there should be no plastic drive parts in ANY appliance and or vehicle.

  • @mmz77 I agree 100%. But the appliance would last too long and the greedy board of directors and stock holders of these companies wouldn't be making money hand over fist. It's sickening! They made the drive coupling out of plastic so it would fail under certain conditions so the transmission wouldn't get damaged.

  • @themaytagrepairman The wonderful world of business!

  • I have matching Kenmore Avocado Green washer and dryer purchased in 1979. The dryer quit on me last week, not running at all. Any advice?

  • Dude, I suggest you (and other viewers) save some money (using foam pipe insulation) and insulate the hot water pipes leading out of your Hot Water heater. Suggest wrapping your water heater as well with fiberglass water heater insulation.

Also there is a main heat element in all hot water heaters which can be replaced by any intrepid do it yourself-er which is a much cheaper fix than a whole hot water replacement.

  • @mmz77 Indeed! What throws people off with these machines is the holes in the basket go almost all the way to the top. So people think they can load these machines up to that level. When in reality these machines only fill up to the third row down from the top, and the machines get overloaded and the person doesn't realize it. Let's face it, how many people actually stand there and watch their washer run?..........Other than me!! LOL

  • @davenwin1973 Thanks for the expertise. I do like the dryer, it has given us ZERO problems since the late 80's.

  • @mmz77 I can tell you for sure that the dryer was made no earlier than 1987. My Grandma got her's in 1987 (the year it was redesigned). 1986 & back had the design from the 1970's. She still has her washer 24 years later. It replaced a Montgomery Ward Touch 'n go washer from the 1960, made by Norge. If you think your Kenmore washer's bad, be thankful it's not a GE or Hotpoint model. My Hotpoint from 1996 lasted less than 3 years. My Frigidaire front loader is 12 yrs old, & still works.

  • I have that same dryer lol
