@arashjan. U R either a misguided or a fool fooled by the radical liberal leftist media. If the Shah renewed the 25 yr old oil contract signed in 1954 & due to expire in 1979, there would not have been a Carter & the British revolution of1979. The only stabborness the Shah ever displayed was to protect Iran's best interest & if that ws not good enough for U than U&I desrve the Mullahs.Annd we will not see a day light until we realise what Americans & the Brits have been doing to Iran since 1979.

Before the Shah - presumably you mean the Pahlavi Dynasty - Iran was an underdeveloped, poverty-stricken, disease-stricken, bandit-ridden, corrupt country with a superstittious society whose only guidance was the Islamic clergy. The first Pahlavi Emperor cleaned up the house, set the foundations for a modern and industrialized Iran, and crushed the influence of the muslim clergy. Iran remained a modernizing, progressing, secular country throughout the Pahlavi Era up until 1979.
