This is a video of an Hippo Tang that give the basic of what you need to know from my experience with this species. The word ''They'' refer strictly to the Hippo Tang. All recommendation on this video only apply to the Hippo Tang. The fish store were you choose your fish does make a huge difference... I have seen many Hippo Tang for sale that were in bad conditions... Let the fish store do the quarantine for you in doubt. Put on hold and come back a week or two after if the ick is not gone... it is probably worst than what it was...

  • mine keep getting ick,and he doesnt eat algae that i bought and clip,he was good and just today he is back with it,i have uv steriylizer,i put him in bigger tank water is fine, dont know what to do, just leave him along ,ick medicine dont work!

  • @brilly21 At this point you have to wait and hope, the fact that he doesn't eat is not good... You need to get him eating, try spirulina flakes, seaweed and mysis shrimp. If he is small try small pellets too. I have found that the smaller one get sick more often, once they have been in a tank for long enough they are good. How big is the tank? Is there agression on him? Do u have cleaner shrimp or cleaner wrasse?

  • @MorpheusDreamer13 is 55gal,just pass him to it he was in a 20gal he got sick put medication ect.i dont think is any agression,no cleaner shrim since i dont have a skimmer good enough,i just did a video of the tank,i just tranfer a cascade filter one u hang on the back and that has a skimmer in it,but leaves a lot obubble like oxigen,u think thas what bothers him?i thought that, because he was fine after a week or 2 of putting him there.

  • @brilly21 Your tank is pretty small for the fish, also, the bubble can definitively stress him... Basically this fish need the best conditions with no stress... Your best hope is to get him eating first...

  • what do u reccomend, adding them strait into the display or QT, or putting it in my sump until it gets acclimated (a week) If u see my vids ive got good space in my sump? my worry is that ill put him in the display and he'll get ick and i wont be able to treat him or catch him in order to treat him

  • @ryjack26 Like I mentionned in the video it is pretty much sure that the Hippo will get ick... Even when you transfer him from the sump to the main tank he will probably get it again... They get ick often but get thru it easily... you need a good cleaner shrimp and cleaner wrasse + a UV Sterelizer and you will be okay... I recommend that you put him directly in the main tank if you have the 3 items I mentionned... Least time in the bag and least stress possible... Good Luck

  • @ctarshis01 I don't know where you heard that but it's false. They are one of the best fish to have in a reef tank.... I had many and they are amazing at eating algae.

  • Does the rabbitfish (foxface) do well with the coral i heard there mean to it.

  • well one of my aquariums is 670litre where as my 2nd tank has 2400,litres.

as my uv steriliser is 5000litres capacity

and both tanks are soon going to be set up again soon when i move flat as just sold my fish sunday we just had. and i had 2 3foot eels 12inch puffer and two 8inch regal tangs
