Mocko jumbies are a tradition on St. Croix that is several hundred years old.
They originally were intended to ward of evil spirits.
It is now a great honor to be a mocko jumbie and training starts when you are only five or six years old.
This video is part of a performance of mocko jumbies on St. Croix during the Jump Up Festival the night of the Friday after Thanksgiving, 2007, in downtown Christiansted.

It's amazing when they really get going, like the one near the end. Some of them are so young! It just wouldn't be a jump up without the mocko jumbies.
