Wow, I love this. And I do not believe it is intrapment when you leave a "Bait car" unlocked for a would-be criminal to take. It's not against the law to leave your car unlocked so why would it be improper to do it in a bait car. Real simple you dumb ass criminals. Don't steal cars

@waltrmitty Would it have been safer to shoot him in the head while he is traveling at a high rate of speed?
-
@waltrmitty He stopped and backed up. They could have disabled the vehicle then.

@waltrmitty question to your last comment.....
So what your saying is there is a better chance of casualties if the vehicle traveling 69-100 miles an houre than a 40 caliber bullet at 1400 fps?
And to solve that issue why dont you disable the vehicle befor it gets to speed.
Breaking in and starting the vehicle should be proof enough that there is a theft in progress.
there has to be a better way to do this than put people in this situation (police included)

@tongue95 this particular video was featured on "The Smoking Gun World's Dumbest Criminals," this guy tried to run a cop on a motorcycle, which is assault with a deadly weapon giving the police the right to shoot at him.

@tongue95 Should have shot a few more times, at least til he was dead!

So, its a bait car that can be disabled at any time? But they try and shoot his head off first?...failing to kill him, they decide to disable the car and detain him instead?

as was mentioned earlier, you cant disable the vehicle w/o giving consideration to where the vehicle is, the danger the suspect might pose to others in respect to population, hazard to traffic, potential for a shootout (if suspect is armed) etc. Serious liability issues need to be checked off. So in the real world, away from Internet keyboards, situational awareness is paramount.

why would they fire first and then call the montoring company to disable the bait car?

police do not have their finger on a disable
button. they call it in and the request is
conveyed to an outfit which processes the deactivation via satellite.
In addition, one needs to assess the surroundings,
bystanders, traffic, etc which is then weighed
to avoid disabling the vehicle and creating a
obstruction in the fast late, etc...areas in
which the bait car and driver couldn't be contained w/o risk to by-standers and property.
