I found this a really hard trick to teach.
Firstly I trained put your toys away, which involved putting toys in a large bucket, it helps to put the bucket behind your back and bring it out like it's an extension of your hand, and click the dog when the ball drops from their mouth into the bucket. It takes lots of patience to get that light bulb moment and I like to make sure I'm giving the dog time to think. I train a new trick for just two minites, as many times a day as I can manage usually 3 or 4 sessions. I don't like to do long training sessions I just find shorts burst work better.
After I taught the ball in the bucket, I taught put it in a bowl, a pot, all sorts of things to make Splash really space aware.
Splash has always been a very quick to learn dog, I am currently trying to teach Fluke our new rescue the same trick and it took months to get the light bulb moment with the bowl, where as Splash had it in a few days, so it will be interesting to see if Fluke can progress in the future to the hoop stage.
Most importantly is my dogs faces when these toys come out, they love learning they love the challenge, and I love playing with them.
Splash come s from Dogs Trust Salisbury.
