Fun bit of trivia. That's my Schroeder 3101212 standing in the that I believe Al is playing through. Was shipped to me the day after being displayed on the floor of NAMM that year, the first of very few of that model made. (Kinda making me regret trying to sell it right now)

A basic question here -
I don't see the top 5 strings being played much, does anyone use them?
If not, then why have 11 strings and not just 6?

If I'm playing with a bassist then someone is in that range. When I play with a band I play simple and low.

It really depends on who your builder is.Try Fred at Bee Basses, David at Minnieweather Basses or Chris at Benavente Basses. I hope this helps!! Your pal Al Caldwell
