Here is a lovely ballad from the debut album of the new Supremes led beautifully by Jean Terrell.

Video cover art was made by me =D

The song was featured on the "Right On" album - which was the first Supremes album with Jean Terrell as lead singer (who replaced Diana Ross in 1970 - after she left to pursue a solo career) - and was also featured as the b-side to the second hit from the album "Everybody's Got the Right to Love".
Joe Viglione of the All Music Guide website called the song 'a powerful composition co-written by producer Wilson, performed with enthusiasm by the Supremes.'

VOCALS: The Supremes
- Lead: Jean Terrell
- Backing: Cindy Birdsong & Mary Wilson

Here is the chart history for "Right On" and its singles:

  • Well to me Scherrie Payne was fire, Susaye Green just superb, Lynda Lawrence wonderful, Cindy good, Mary fantastic, but Jean Terrell was the soothing soul that the group needed. She stepped in Diana's shoes and Jean was a catch to everyone's ears but Motown knew this and didn't push the group for Jean was the ultimate lead singer they needed after Diana left. Politics as usual. I love Jean fronting the group mostly for she had it all.

  • @Vincent50 I agree. Jean had the right mix of the natural sweetness in her tone that was reminiscent of Diana's yet the powerful soul needed to access the urban market once more. Still, I think vocally, Scherrie was the strongest of all Supremes.

  • @MeetTheSupremes Although it's really hard to choose between them, I'd say the Mary, Cindy and Jean line-up of The Supremes was my favourite. Jean's voice was just like liquid gold. What would be your ideal Supremes line up?

  • @Bananadiva1 Sorry for the slow reply, I really love this lineup because the Supremes were a GROUP again and it resulted in better music and performances ermmm but I really love all the lineups - particularly this one, DMF and MSS (because the last Supremes album is just phenemonal)

  • Thanks for the upload. I love this song. It's one of the best songs on one of the 70s Supremes' best albums.

  • @Bananadiva1 Yes I totally agree!! Thanks for commenting :)

  • Thanks so much for this video. Jean Terrell is a fabulous singer with such a distinctive voice and aura of her own. I was a Mary Wilson fan but come to appreciate all of the ladies that made the Supremes ~~~~ No other girl group came close to them in the 70's.

  • You're so right.....They had such great material & numerous occasions to obtain more outstanding hits that unfortunately not given much support....Will take what I can get.....

  • heres to you beverley(the boo lady)

  • ..this was my FAVORITE ALBUM for so many years.. nice work on the cover art!! EVERY TRACK .. priceless!! ...Wait a minute!! Before you leave me!!

  • I swear to God Diana Ross could eat this song for breakfast if she wanted to!

  • because of Mary, the group wanted out of Motown; Berry was never going to let them get bigger than Diana Ross and the Supremes; Diana struggled in the 70's; Four Tops, Gladys Knight and the Pips; Marvin Gaye all left; all had great success after their time with Motown; Berry was too tangled with making diana a star; the supremes got lost in the shuffle and mary's stupid ass would not leave Motown, sad to say the ladies who became supremes Lynda, Sherrie, even Cindy had better voices & talent

  • @hoochiemamaDora Jean was gone before Pedro took over.

  • People also need to remember in this period Aretha did okay, she was no where as marketable, sold as well and as successful as the Supremes. Flo, having the same robust voice would not have done any better, not until the late 70's or early 80's was Aretha as mainstream as like now, the same for Tina Turner. Flo would have had to wait until the late 70's or 80's to achieve her success. Mary Wilson & husband Pedro killed the Supremes as she tried to dictate to the group, she ran Jean out

  • I am an ULTIMATE Supremes fan. My love affair with them is ultimate as well. The strongest Supremes voice was and always will be Florence Ballard as she was in Aretha's league. But at the time Motown & Berry needed somone who could pull the group mainstream so alas Diana. Jean could have taken the group even higher had Berry allowed the group to but he did not; can't blame Diana that was his poor business choice. Sherrie was awesome but by then the group was dying because of Mary & her husband

  • THE MIGHT OF MOTOWN RECORDS...BRILLIANT...

  • This should have been released as the "A" side, not "Everybody's got the right"...

  • as a young man i loved this song such memories. Thanks Ladies.
