This video compares the difference between normal running speed and midair cycling speed. In midair speed cycling, your speed cycles through the following numbers:
512, 496, 536, 520, 504, 544, 528, (Loop)
This gives you an average of 520 - a tiny boost over the average 512. This allows me to be 24 frames faster here.
There's also a way to cycle on the ground, but it gives you an average speed of 512. Yay, pointlessness!
It's pretty simple stuff, but I thought it'd be interesting to watch.
At the end, I've included a run that throws sliding off cliffs into the mix to get ahead faster. Since it's on SNES9x 1.51, I'm unable to compare to the others...

Thanks to mindnomad for merging the first clip!

  • Awesome! When will a full run be up?

  • Actually, I won't be doing a full run due to how tedious the speed cycling is! I mean, repeatedly pressing left or right at certain frames while also making sure your jump height is adjusted to get certain numbers of speed upon landing is kinda tiring for me...

(Hmm... then again, a majority of the run will require Coo, which is just B button spamming.)

  • Oh, and you have to pay attention to Gooey, too. His speed address lags one frame behind, making it even more confusing to follow. x_x

  • @LightBlueYoshi But that is what TAS is all about! Doing all that extra bullshit just to squeeze out a couple extra minutes.

  • Exactly, but... I myself just don't have the patience for it. At least using 6/5 is pressing forward in a simple pattern. :(

  • I use speed cycling when I'm late for school :D

  • Yes there is, and it's in the video; s01D22 is the address!

  • It's my friend that merged this video though, haha!

I think he used Sony Vegas to do so, but I'm not sure...

  • @cxgamer No really? haha

Is there a ram code for this like the code for mario's speed?

  • Which program do you use to merge videos?

  • The right one was faster.
