The Orange Democratic Party has instituted disciplinary measures against perceived rebel party mps, led by higher education minister William Ruto for opposing the passage of the new constitution. The party's parliamentary group, led by Chairman Henry Kosgei and secretary general Anyang Nyong'o insisted that all party members were bound to abide by party resolutions, and any member opposing risked punitive measures including suspension or expulsion. The party also resolved to lock out Ruto and his allies from the parliamentary oversight committee that will oversee the implementation of the new constitution. Francis Gachuri reports.
We have had it all; the ODM rookies have threatened to throw the party in disarray. What more do you expect from the ordinary committed members of the party? They have been patient enough even when the ODM greenhorns were at the verge of throwing the party in flames. You try to elucidate why they are on the war path but in essence arrive at blind alley. It is all about ethnicity, ourselves and selfishness, the others are none existence so they assume. Namwamba, you have hit the nail on the head.
