@E30engineering i hear you but it's as much about keeping it *tight* as loud...i prefer a TIGHT groove over just some loud ish anyday!

@bteniswood These words are true. The main reason is that the snare notes need to get down to about the same volume as the hi hat or at least in the same ball park, otherwise you don't get the " dance " between the snare, hi hat and bass. They are called " ghost notes " in drummers language.

@E30engineering You ever seen the 'real' funk guys play? They all play this softly, some even more so. James Gadson, Zig, Purdie, Clyde and Jabo all play softly compared to most people. If you think it's about how loud you play then I can guarantee you ain't got a clue what funk is.
