Anyhoo, I wonder how Rhinox avoided the virus despite the obvious proximity? As for RagingFeline's question about Silverbolt, maybe he just got stuck in beast mode without much else happening. The virus turned them into the first forms they acquired on prehistoric Earth.

and isnt it convenient they didnt show silverbolt devolving? i mean, what would he have become, anyway? a protoform again? he was a "transmetal" but tht was his first and only form...

Megatron got loose while they were in transwarp - it's possible that he fell out and made it back to Cybertron a long time ago - in the past. When the Maximals were shot down, it's theoretically plausible that Megatron's had decades to perfect his virus and begin his reign.

Keep in mind, in the beast wars he found away to create transmetals and made them stronger.
