Follow the girls soccer team at Kelly High School on Chicago's south side through grueling early morning practices as they prepare for the competition season. Through further development of this story, we will explore the inequities that remain today in inner city public schools, nearly 40 years after Title IX was passed.
This clip features snippets from one of three main stories that will be featured in In The Game, a Kartemquin Films documentary-in-production that is following women athletes across different generations, all engaged in an ongoing struggle for opportunity and respect. In The Game will explore issues of gender equality in sport, the impact of Title IX over the last 38 years, and how change happens in a democracy.
Maria Finitzo (Director/Producer) won the 2008 Peabody Award for Broadcast Excellence for her most recent project with Kartemquin Films, Mapping Stem Cell Research: Terra Incognita, a feature length film that puts a human face on the controversial science of stem cell research.
