A really basic tutorial about exporting models and textures to WED, from within 3d Studio Max, using texture baking.

This is a really, really old tutorial. I've been out of touch with whatever engine this was even since I've posted this guide (the name escapes me right now).

There are now a lot of serious engines out there, for free or very little so switching is highly recommended. Some better engines available now:
Unity
UDK
CryEngine
Shiva (much younger but still better)

  • can you use this baking technique to show materials in Vizard as everything is cumin up messed up :( please help

  • @anil2 @anil2 I have absolutely no experience with Vizard. I'm guessing the unwrapping/ texture baking part is more or less the same. The tutorial is also quite outdated and doesn't touch-up on more serious unwrapping and the likes. So, a really basic tutorial.

    You should try something like:

    3dtotal.com/tutorials/texture_baking/

I also remember some related tutorials on:

    cg.tutsplus com

  • A question i want to ask you that please reply i made a room in 3ds max and import a lot of models such as people, bed, lamp, wardrob etc. and gave them materials etc. after that gave point light 10 to 20. exposer logarithm. and radiocity on global subdivision setting. and start solution. the solution takes 1 to 2 hours. question is that timing can be controlled? or meshes are too much? File is loading because of too much models in a file.

  • It's only natural that the more objects/ lights/ textures you have the more it will take to render the scene. See if you can optimize the rendering procedure by separately baking some of the objects (if possible).

Also, the higher the rendering settings the more it will take to finish the job (straight forward stuff).

And, btw, 2 hours is not that much. For a full room I'd be happy to get away with a 24h baking process on a quad-core (vray).

  • so... when you export to MED, the texture include the shadows?? and if i make any textured object whitout lights, when i export to MED they will be all black and i must put lights to create any object?? Thanks for the video! =)

  • This is a texture baking tutorial. The output object/ texture include shadows and yes the lights are necessary (in 3ds max). As you can see i don't have any lights enabled in MED

    nice tut

  • ty for this :D

  • Thanks a lot. This really helped. The MAX tutorial leaves about 50% of the important stuff out of the discussion.

  • Thanks man !! This is REALLY helpful =)
