Bozalan (2008) Trailer

http://japandocumentary.com This documentary shows the process of naturally dyed carpet weaving in the village of Bozalan in the Milas region of southwest Turkey. In a time when the vast majority of hand made Turkish carpets are made with synthetically dyed colors, Bozalan is a rare case in that the women of this village continue to use natural dyes.

The film paints a portrait of a village where carpet weaving is central to life. Plants that grow wild nearby are collected for the dye. Women gather together with their neighbors to weave carpets for sale or for their dowries.

Villagers talk about the history of carpet weaving in their village and explain some of the motifs and methods of making colors.
