Queensland is the holiday state the Sunshine state whose sunburnt outback and miles of sandy, white beaches pull in more tourists each year than anywhere else in Australia except Sydney. But in such a vast state there is more to do than just throw your beach-towel down, with a multitude of rainforests to see and experience as well as lively urban culture in cities such as Brisbane or Cairns to savour and enjoy.

Perhaps the states greatest single attraction is the Great Barrier Reef, the largest and most extensive reef system in the world. A two-million year old kaleidoscope of corals and teeming marine life stretching further than the great wall of China it is a must-see for any visitor to Queensland. The Cairns region is particularly popular for visitors to the Great Barrier Reef with it's access to abundant animal sanctuaries, highland rainforest and beautiful waterfalls.

A bit further south is the Whitsunday Coast with it's famous Whitsunday Islands, largely untouched paradise islands offering great relaxation and watersport activities, especially sailing. From spotting wild platypusses at the Eungella National Park to partying at Airlie Beach, there is something for everyone here.

The Gold Coast is great for families where theme parks abound with immense water slides, hollywood heroes and heart-stopping rides. This is truly Australia's playground where surf, sun and fun play out on a grand, commercial scale. It's undisputed capital is Surfers Paradise, a dizzying party mecca which never seems to sleep and is not for the faint-hearted.

The Fraser Coast is very special with the enigmatic Fraser Island as it's prize jewel. This is the largest sand island in the world essentially one long forest-backed beach offering stunning scenery, dense rainforests, luminous lakes and excellent opportunities for bushwalking, a must for any lover of the great outdoors. With whales to watch and turtles in abundance here it deserves it's reputation as a magical getaway destination.

With so much coastline here to enjoy, including the popular Sunshine Coast and the Capricorn Coast there is truly something for everyone, from romance-seeking couples to young families to find and to relish.

Brisbane is the state capital and is regarded by many as one of the best places to live in Australia enjoying a temperate climate while being within easy rich of Queensland's abundant tropical landscapes. It is full of charms and has plenty to do for children and adults alike, having revamped itself in recent years into a busy and interesting metropolis. Even from here the great Aussie oudoors is never far away with the Brisbane Forest Park within easy reach of the city, with it's excellent camping, bushwalking and other outdoor opportunities.

Pack your suncream if you're heading for Queensland. The tropical climate is what people come here for and the wondrous medicinal qualities of a stay in this state is something it's people are rightly proud to share with the world. This is nature at it's shining best and whether it's quiet sanctuary or the glitziest of party mayhem that you're seeking you will find it here, done the Australian way and done to perfection.
