The new Toronto Rocket TR subway trains will be the first subway trains in North America to feature an open gangway, allowing passengers to walk from one end of the train to the other.
Some of the new technological features in this train include a variable message sign announcing the next station, a light up map, anti-microbial surfaces, emergency intercoms and security cameras.
Many of the train's style cues are borrowed from Hong Kong's MTR metro system.
The Toronto Rocket TR trains will operate solely on the Yonge-University-Spadina line. The 1996 T1 trains will operate solely on the Bloor-Danforth and Sheppard line, with some slotted in on the Yonge-University-Spadina line as well. The TR trains will end the operating lives of the 1974 H4, 1976 H5 and 1986 H6 trains. However, it should be noted the H6 trains will continue service in 2013 for LAMATA in Lagos, Nigeria.

Yeah, the open car concept is really great. The panhandlers can work the entire length of the train in half the time.

BART here in Oakland needs to take a look at this. Since they are planning to update their fleet in years to come.
