Ignacio Rodriquez-Iturbe of Princeton University's School of Engineering talks about his research on river networks (which -- like lightning and trees -- are examples of fractals) and what it tells us about biodiversity. A computer model he and fellow researchers have created will help predict the effects that climate change and man-made structures like dams will have on fish biodiversity. The interview is based on research that was published in the journal Nature on May 8, 2008.
