L'aîmara fait partie la famille des Erythrinidae. Carnivore et nocturne il fréquente pratiquement tous les fleuves de Guyane. Il peut atteindre 1 mètre pour 40 kg. La période de reproduction d'une durée de quatre mois, pendant la saison des pluies, s'étend du mois décembre au mois de mars.

  • this fish can grow much bigger than a hoplias m. also it is WAYYYYYY MORE RARE. they can go up to 3k in usa dollars, while hoplias m. can be found common in local fish stores for about 30
