@shane4666: The Socket of the "ball and socket" joint, and sometimes the actuall ball on the end of the femur can grow arthritic calcium spurs that cause pain when moved. The Birmingham resurfacing procedure smooths the socket to allow the new socket joint to hold the new metallic femur tip.

Option for younger, active patients with hipproblems-Shown to last longer, allow greater range of motion. I am post-op 4 days and can say the former hip pain is completely gone!!! Nothing short of miraculous.Much healing to be pain free--as you can see from this video the body takes a beating in order to get at the hip joint and to position the devise precisely-muscles are VERY ticked off for a bit, but to be free of that constant deep, throbbing, grinding bone-on-bone joint pain is SPECTACULAR!
