Students: Hear Steve Davies live at the Scholarship and a Free Society http://lrnlbty.co/wz3Ao9 or The Challenges and Future of Liberty Seminars http://lrnlbty.co/zvFZfS this summer

According to Dr. Stephen Davies, libertarianism is first and foremost a political doctrine. Libertarians seek a society most conducive to human flourishing amongst autonomous self-defined individuals. Libertarians argue that this state of affairs is accomplished when the role of government and power is kept to a minimum. Although some have argued that libertarianism is a cult or rigid creed, Dr. Davies argues it is not, as there is a great deal of debate within the libertarian tradition. These internal debates are a sign of intellectual vitality, and are healthy for any intellectual tradition.

  • Intelligent people get so engrossed in their man-made concepts that they neglect to see what really matters... Voting for Ron Paul in the coming election.

  • @TheLyricalGal Well corporations are for the most enabled by state intervention, so without state intervention, .i.e. a free market, they would lose almost all of their advantages. Corporations lobby for favorable regulations, regulations that make it harder for competing firms to enter the market.

The term corporation comes from being incorporated by the state.

  • @xioahu Thank you. :)

  • @WalterLiddy its individual choices. I think you missed the point. People have different takes on when life begins. Just because the Bible says it starts at one point doesnt make it law. Thats what freedom of religion is all about. Religous values do play a role on how people veiw life. Same with gay marriage. etc. etc.

  • @SturFriedBrains Using an example as to 1 company gathering all of the world's resources is a little far-fetched. That would mean that one company owns every inch of land possible on the planet. History has proven that too much government intervention is destructive. It gives "knee jerk" reactions which infate that market in the long run, and also creates lobbying. If you hate big companies then you don't have to buy their products. But you can't stop everyone from buying their stuff.

  • @sparta1236 I agree with you but use "they're" next time. "their" is not the word you're looking for in this context- just trying to help out :D

  • TheLyricalGal that is not at all what would happen under libertarianism. There would be liberty for all. Read some libertarian texts and you'll see our logic

  • @WalterLiddy: Libertarians think abortion should be left to the individual to decide upon through conscious deliberation- we side with medical science which have not proved that life begins at conception. Libertarians are not in favor of banning gay marriage, libertarians are hard-core supporters of it. You call us a hypocrite based on lies- someone who doesn't know what their talking about is not one that anyone should trust- their either ignorant or liars.

  • @SturFriedBrains How would one go about getting all the resources of the world?

  • @crazypants88 I dont get why people dont realize that "free" market becomes "fixed" market once the game of Capitalism (yes its a game because one side attempts to out do the other(s) to win the prize) is perfected. Think about it if I have all the resources of the world under my belt, & there was a threat to my income, even a little one, wouldn't I use my resources to stop the threat before it get out of my control? YES! That is why Capitalism at this near perfect state is TERRIBLE!!!

  • I disagree with the idea that libertarians think they are autonomous. I am a libertarian and I think that humans are interdependent on society and are able to function as an entity in and of itself (I am, of course, speaking from a purely economical standpoint)
