  • Well, kendo is a traditional stuff and has it's etiquette... Some people find it exciting too :-)

Also note, that this is a formal demonstration, normal practice includes only one standing bow to the opponent at the beginning and finishing of the session.

  • the last part with the wakizashi bokken (sorry don't know the name) is very interesting, don't even knew there was kata for it, thanks for posting it

  • The short sword is called kodachi.

  • people are disrespectful to other cultures, fucking ignorance..

  • okay...and I most humbly apologize for the harshness of my first comment. I just found this to be a bit slow, but I understand perfectly well why they do it now.

  • @H2Zman I agree.

  • I find kata just as intense, if not more intense, than shinai kendo. I try to put as much intensity into my shinai kendo as I can, but kata always seems way more intense. Perhaps it's because of the bokken and the real risk for injury. Perhaps it's because jigeiko has a much more loose feel to it. Other people may be trying to score points, but I'm more experimental and don't care so much if I get cut. Anyway, I always feel right on death's door during kata, and I'm always exhausted after it.

  • you should search kendo on youtube and look at some championships or something, they can be pretty tough

  • this is a kata demonstration, sparring matches are usually more intense

  • okay, thought so. I knew there was something exciting... Thanks for the info!

  • thanks!
