  • Rather hear cheese and goodtime radio than modern and dead!

  • The Radio 1 Jingles of the 1970's and 80's were Fanstatic, use to love listening to Radio 1 as a child, listening to Dave Lee Travis at the weekends, Simon Mayo Breakfast Show and Steve Wright in the Afternoon now on Radio 2. Happy sound of Radio 1 of today is no longer my favourite station.

  • Radio today in the uk is useless and seems to be getting worse. Many of the voices (i use that term loosely) today are painful to listen to. Its been totally dumbed down

  • I wouldnt quite word it exactly the same way as 'runrome' or 'jtlampsu' but i cant help but agree with them all the way, radio one was much better in the 1970's with jimmy saville, dave lee travis, tony blackburn and noel edmunds, i couldnt stand chris eveans or chris moyles, so i never liston to it now!, the best has gone!

  • Agree with Runrome.... I'm not an old fogey by any means but Radio 1 is full of ARSES now, I prefer Radio 2.........

  • @leepenfold lol, it looks like Steve McClaren! For schure.

  • Such memories - thanks for sharing.

  • Hey pop pickers, what a great big plate of nostalgic cheese.

  • ....because it has become the kind of 'new' Radio 1, with the typical old fashioned 'personality jocks' catering for the broad audience that Radio 1 used to attract. Plays a diverse set of music (up to a point !) too, e.g. 'oldies' (well what we now see as) like Oasis, Blur and as far back as 70s & 60s, mixed with your current chart stuff like Cheryl Cole and Lily Allen etc

  • @jackotheripper What it is this long since, is that if you didn't care much for the djs or some of them, it did feel as if you were listening to something that was great then ; somewhere that you could exclusively listen to chart music, which was huge as opposed to now, where like tv, it has fragmented so much with if anything too much competition and diversity, that hardly anyone bothers to listen. TV used to be something to look forward to before video. Movies were a big event. Radio 2 is big
