Emma Amos appropriates images and representations produced by male artists of European descent as a way to recode those images. These appropriations are affirmations and assertions of agency to disempower established narratives of biological determinism and femininity in what is deemed to be high art by the white male gaze. This video was made for Phyllis Jackson's Black Aesthetics and Political (Re)presentation at Pomona College in Claremont, CA.
