  • he SAYS all of his SENTences with the SAME inFLECtion.

  • @madbob73 he did mention the Jutes from southern Scandinavia (aka Danish). Overall this is a really dumbed down lecture, but informative and entertaining nonetheless. I know you commented over a year ago, so sorry for replying so late :P

  • @Deogol16 - Of course it was socio-economic reasons. How does a language rise to prominence for "linguistic reasons"? Except for suggesting a language could somehow become popular for pure aesthetic beauty, it's gonna be political and economic forces!

  • He said the word "just," but it doesn't come from Anglo-Saxon roots, it comes from Latin "justus."

  • It's often difficult to know if someone is merely simplifying for an audience or simply doesn't know enough about a subject. Present day Italians don't speak Italian because the Romans conquered them and made them speak Latin. Latin was one dialect that rose to prominence...just as Standard English is merely one dialect that became powerful for socio-economic (not linguistic) reasons.

  • Yes he did! But the Germanic invasions retook England after the fall of Rome.

  • Heh. A lot of his facts are wrong, but it's awfully fun to watch/listen to, ne?

  • Is this supposed to be a comedy routine?

    Julius Caesar didn't conquer England.

  • A great deal of english words came from latin, including LANGUAGE and HISTORY LOL

  • What about MMMMMMMMMM or Uhhhhhhh LOL. That doesn't make sense. Its really because we all learned the alphabet from the same people.
