More info: http://hembrow.blogspot.com/2008/09/default-to-green.html

This traffic light is one of several in Assen which defaults to green for bikes on the bike path and only switches to green for cars crossing if they drive along so they're detected by a sensor and they wait for a bit.

It's on a main cycle commuting route and makes journeys somewhat more efficient.

It's like a toucan crossing in reverse.

  • That is a good idea. We have something similar for buses, but not yet for bikes.

  • see that is why Australia is the fattest country we don't have proper bike ways like this!
