There are a number of other factual errors he makes in "Star Trek: The Real Story," which was written thirty years after the series debuted. For a better history, read "The Making of Star Trek" by Stephen E. Whitfield. It was written in '67--'68, as the series was being filmed.

@TVGH I'm a second generation Trekfan (I got hooked the first year of syndication). As I recall, the second season theme was re-recorded and sounded a little less "Wilbur Hatch-y," but it still did NOT have the vocal background. This was, I'm certain, added only in the third season (one reviewer said it sounded like "a [female dog] howling in heat"). This, BTW, contradicts Herb Solow's recollection that the vocal was cut after the first season to save money.

THere is one thing that they kind of forgot when they remastered it. I won't hold it against them but the original opening for WNMHGB, while it had the same music and same pictures, it did not have the Narration. The people remastering it forgot that and put it in that one.

I thought they added the vocals (which is the more famous version of the theme) to every episode of the Remastered episodes.

Don't forget: the wordless vocal version was actually heard in the original show's episode "The Cage".

Actually, the FIRST season of Star Trek did not have the vocal. It was strings. If you're watching "Remastered," you'll find that the vocals are there for the second and third season credits. They were redone (and very well, I might add) by a new vocalist. Check out the video entitled "Re-recording the Star Trek theme" at StarTrek dot com. Just look in the News section for "Remastering Star Trek Q & A."
