Dave Brown Cross Checks Tomas Sandstrom in the face

This is just a brutal cross check by the Flyers Dave Brown on the Rangers' Tomas Sandstrom that took place at MSG in NY on 10/26/87. This happened to be Ron Hextall's first game back after his 8 game suspension for his historic slash on Kent Nilson in the Stanley Cup Finals the year prior. Dave Brown was suspended for 15 games which equaled the second-longest suspension in league history for a player altercation. Sandstrom suffered a concussion and was hospitalized overnight. I remember Gene Hart and Bobby Taylor apologizing during the next game for their comments about Sandstrom faking and embellishing his injury.

1:41 was that Mike Keenan? Wow that was a brutal cross check man. I wish Lindross never played for that team but I have to admit he is the perfect mould for that type of physicality and game plan. Pretty harsh and should have received something along the lines of Bertuzzi and Dale Hunter.

I remember when this happened, but I don't remember anyone feeling too bad about it. Pretty much the feeling was "It's about time." Sandstorm was a dirty POS.

Players policing themselves. Sandstrom was a dirty piece of shit who would always hide behind the refs. He runs over Hextall, jabs him with his stick. Brown goes in and does what he`s paid to do, take out the trash. Think Lucic would have taken a run at Miller with Dave Brown in the line-up? It was over the line, but I'll bet that was the last time Sandstrom got close to a Philly goalie.

Wow, the comentators are really unsympathetic towards Sandstrom, am I missing something here?

@grunge10111 They were unsympathetic because Sandstrom had a history of over embellishing injuries like that in order to get penalties. He did so in a game just a few weeks prior. He was like the "Boy Who Cried Wolf" and this was the time when the wolves actually came and unfortunately they did not believe him. They apologized the following game when they realized their mistake.
