No. I would say the ruling class discredited communism. Even back in the time of Marx, communists have always been smeared. Do they think that there is ever going to be a revolutionary Marxist that will get good press from the bourgeois media? Marxism is the ideology of the proletariat, and stands for the ruling class being expropriated and losing control of both their private property and of the state.

Stalin was the worst. Sure, the USSR was doing okay by the end of his rule, but he single-handedly discredited communism.
