@BigT3xan What? I'm not the one talking like a fool. This study is not negative on speaking in tongues but positive. It was paid for by people who speak in tongues to see if it could be confirmed that we speak as the spirit gives utterance. It confirmed that because the mouth can't speak without the brain controlling it. If someone is supernaturally healed of cancer or a broken bone wont the doctors be able to confirm it? Christianity is not supposed to be about just faith but proof.

Has anyone considered the fact that the reason why the language centre in the frontal lobe is not active is because they are not using a language? If what they're doing is not coming from anything that's organised, anything that's structured and syntactical (like language), then why would the 'language' centre be active. It's almost like when you scream nonsense as you go down a scary water slide. Also, I'd like to see an atheist speak jibberish in the MRI to see if they show less activity too.

@revkeithbarr I don't think either of you are fools, but you are mistaken. This study has one definitive conclusion, that people speaking in tongues aren't speaking a learned language. That leaves billions of other possibilities, people could be making up a non-language. People could be having a temporal (not frontal) lobe seizure, which would make them believe they have a connection to God. They could be doing a handstand, that also would show you aren't speaking a learned language.

People have temporal lobe seizures, that wouldn't reflect speaking a language, it would reflect the belief that you're connecting with God. This is beyond a stretch. Christians will say or do anything to justify their absurd beliefs, and in order to defend their worldview they ignore everything they don't like in the Bible.

I've seen a lot of silly things on the Internet, this one wins hands down. When you hear the story on the news they leave out that the authors stated (in the article posted) that the study was inconclusive. You seem to think that the conclusion that these people aren't speaking a learned language helps your case, that's like arguing that we're speaking to God when we're bowling because our brain scan shows we aren't speaking a learned language. These people want to believe they are...
