Alison Parker used to run the Auchincairn Post Office from a portacabin but has recently seen business soar after moving into the new Lottery-funded enterprise centre. Alison remembers only too well the cramped and cold conditions she once worked in and says that the new centre with its post office and shop has finally made her feel at the centre of the local community. Now in the warm, new building Alison is seeing more villagers out and about picking up their papers and says it has made a real difference to local life. As well as securing the future of the post office, the enterprise centre provides space for new businesses including a nursery.

BIG's Investing in Communities programme will continue to fund projects though Growing Community Assets, which has four updated outcomes.

Key outcome: People in communities are able to own, manage and develop assets in order to overcome disadvantage and inequality.
