The Cook Children's Medical Center NICU cares for newborns and infants with problems related to premature birth, respiratory failure and conditions requiring surgery. The NICU features specialized equipment, monitoring and lighting and d├ęcor that gives premature babies time to grow and develop. Babies may also need specialized care for birth anomalies, respiratory distress or illness, and neurological conditions. Board-certified neonatologists and neonatal nurse practitioners provide 24 hour-a-day staffing.
