Myself and 2 of my roommates decided to attempt Mt. Aylmer (the tallest mountain in the immediate banff area, 10,375ft. ASL) on Sept. 22, 2008 even though there had been a fresh dusting of snow the day before.
After 5-1/2 gruelling hours of hiking we finally reached the summit and got our names into the summit registry so that we'd go down in Banff history.

  • would you say this is accessible easily without the boat? do the boat place there give u boats for rent? u seem to be out there in fall without snow equipment meaning snow wasn't that deep? I'm thinking of doing this this summer, let me know what u think

  • @Mkamalid This hike is very accessible without the boat however it adds an extra 8 km to the beginning and an extra 8 km at the end. Most people who complete the hike do it in 2 days where they camp at the base of the mountain at the campsite named LM8. LM8 closes in the middle of the summer due to Buffalo Berries growing in the area but there is another campsite 1 km further up the lake to use. We worked at the boat place so we were able to take a boat out.

  • @Mkamalid Also the hike is restricted throughout most of the summer to groups of 4 or more so you'll need to find some ppl to do it with you. Aylmer may get snow at any time during the year but it is snow free at the heat of most summers. We did it late September, which is not the typical time to do it. Cheers

  • Unfortunately this was the only mountain I summitted that summer. I did a bunch of other hikes over the course of the summer but never any other mountains. Hopefully I'll get up Inglismaldie this upcoming summer

  • I wish we had mountains in Australia all we have are hills and lots of desert

  • I'm thinking of doing Aylmer this summer. How does this scramble compare to Cascade or Rundle? I hope to go when there is less snow. Do you have any tips?

  • Epic... I summited Cascade about 5 weeks before this, what other mountains have you guys attempted/summited in the banff/canmore area?
