Song mixed with scenes from my backyard during our Dec. 16,2007 snowstorm!

In The Bleak Mid-Winter
words by Christine Rossetti 1872
music by Gustav T Holst 1906

In the bleak midwinter
Frosty wind made moan,
Earth stood hard as iron,
Water like a stone;
Snow had fallen,
Snow on snow,
Snow on snow,
In the bleak midwinter,
Long ago.

Angels and archangels
May have gathered there,
Cherubim and seraphim
Thronged the air;
But his mother only,
In her maiden bliss,
Worshipped the Beloved
With a kiss.

What can I give him,
Poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd
I would bring a lamb,
If I were a wise man
I would do my part,
Yet what I can I give Him —
Give my heart.

vs. 1 repeated.
(There are 2 other verses I didn't include)

  • A fellow Oswego County resident here. Thanks for sharing this wonderful song and video.

  • @KickinShadows Thanks for the comment! Did you get hit by the lake effect last night? Here in Fulton we got hammered!

  • Lovely Voice, beautiful arrangement.

  • Thanks!

  • Jim- I enjoyed this so much! It reminded me of my days a long time ago - as a choir boy in Grace Episcopal Church in Utica, NY (1954-58). The video was reminiscent of my winters in Utica, but your voice and the arrangement topped everything else. I look forward to hearing more of your wonderful voice.

  • Thank you for your kind comments!

  • Thank you Nicholas!

  • I really enjoyed this. I'm something of a traditionalist when it comes to carols (my own "In the Bleak Midwinter video is of the organ accompaniment), but this has a wonderful feel. Five stars, added to favourites.

  • Thanks Andre!
