The 2007 Bioenergy Summer Interns conducted a waste audit at the University of Floirda. They collected the biodegradable plates, cups, and forks as well as the thrown-away food from the 'Krishna Lunch' served at the University of Florida to study the suitability of the plates for composting and the food scraps for anaerobic digestion into biogas. This video describes the anaerobic digestion of the waste. Bioenergy School Website: http://biogas.ifas.ufl.edu/Internship/ UF Biogas Website: http://biogas.ifas.ufl.edu/

  • Is it any more dangerous than a can of gas in a garage?

  • Very inspirational you guys! Quick and maybe stupid question (since I currently use a telescoping drum digester but would like to adopt your model): Once you've displaced the water, given that it is now in the lower tank, how do you get it back into the gas holding tank? Does burning the gas itself create enough negative pressure in the gas holding tank to siphon it back in from the measuring tank, or are you manually replacing it? Sorry to sound so obtuse!

  • We had to manually replace the water. We have since replaced the gas collector with a floating barrel design.

  • Does that include doggie doo doo?

  • Doggie doo doo can certainly be used in an anaerobic digester to produce biogas.

  • is there a way to actually "add" a colour in the flame so that way you are aware of a flame being present (for safety reasons) and also is there a way to pressurize the gas made from this process as i would like to make my own gas and produce it for a house i plan on building from shipping containers.

  • hello

can the gas be used to drive my domestic CH boiler (ideal standered mexico 40k btu) and if i stored the gas for a few months

will it run in th winter

  • is anyone else distracted by the "grab some" thumbnail in the related videos?

  • Good citizen

  • I would feed all the food waste to black soldier fly larva first then feed that waste to the digester. It is estimated that BSFL can convert 100lbs waste down to approx 5lbs of solid waste and maybe a couple qts of effulent (fertilizer). Additionaly the BSFL make great feed for many animals ie: chickens, reptiles, etc

  • @YiuTeub I tend to agree, and i had read more up on the pathogens and they do take longer to break down.traditional toilets are a concern because what seeps back out into the ground.they usually put in a lot of rocks for filter when they set a tank but it shouldn't stop there.they should also have several layers of biochar for filtering before it goes back into the ground water system. the tops of the tanks could be fitted with a release valve hooked to a line going back into a home to heat/cook

  • @tappakeggaday1 pathogens die after about a year or two. Let it age and it can be tilled into the ground. Traditional toilets are the danger of the future. Waterways are already going to "shit".

  • Wait a minute... why was a polluting gas guzzling SUV used instead of bicycles with utility trailers attached… Hmmm?

I’m just kidding, one step at a time. I know.

  • Two harikrishna's disliked this video because they are missing out on the free biogas they are throwing away.

  • @tappakeggaday1 Wow, it's been several months since I've returned to these comments here on YouTube. When it comes to Earthships, they have a process with the on-site septic system that can break down all the bacteria from human waste. I may look into this system a little further, and respond again when I have more information.
