Molly is a damaged woman. Her conflicted fantasies of love and hate for the media perfect men of the area lead to terrible acts fueled by childhood abuse at the hands of her father.
Directed by Matt Cimber, The Witch Who Came From The Sea tells a powerful story of a monster made by an act of selfish cruelty.

  • Great work as ever. Got to admit, I've never even heard of this one but it looks like an interesting movie. (And an interesting coincidence, I'm just working on a review of a serial killer movie too.)

  • @davidscribe Thanks David. I'm really looking forward to your video. This one took a lot of work to get done, I always struggle with the films I really like. It's an odd phenomenon of critical writing

  • Nice review Glenn. This is one of the few nasties that I haven't seen. I've never been able to find it. I'll have to look for it. Why was this film included on the list ? What was offensive for this film to be labelled as a 'nasty' ?

  • @joelsttn It's on the 'Box of the Banned 2' box set on DVD. It's not what most of the nasties fans would want to watch but i liked it a lot.

There's a scene inn which the father is seen having sex with Molly as a child (nothing explicit but a powerful scene none the less) and of course there are several scene of Molly cutting the men with a razor blade. The packaging was the most exploitative element of this movie, that undoubtedly contributed to its prosecution

  • I've tried watching this film a couple of times and never managed to be able to sit still long enough to persevere.

  • @DarkAngel182 Its not an exciting film for sure and it is rather heavy. I liked it a lot though, very much a story based film, that's something I can respect

  • I will hunt down a copy, and help speed the good word of this film!

  • If I rented a movie with that box art and title and got a deep psychological thriller instead of a Heavy-Metal-style comic book fantasy, I'd be pissed.

  • "Doesn't sit comfortably with it's peers". What about Possession? I've never been sure why that was on the list as well...

  • I've never seen this one but I've always found the cover art really interesting.Doesn't seem to really match what the movies about totally. It is still very wicked looking.

  • that's an awesome movie cover. to see that in my box would make me proud.

  • What is she saying to that guy when he's tied up?

  • You must have read my mind, I was just thinking, I wish he would do a review of The Witch Who Came From the Sea." I'll have to check this out.

  • Millie perkins was amazing in this, i found it really intense and it quite rattled me, which is a big compliment considering it isnt violent at all, (the version i saw had alot of cut aways so i dont know if i saw the uncut version) but every scene is engaging, and with the feelings of hate, resentment and an incapability to move on you can almost relate character . Shes almost a romantic anti hero to me. I have no idea why this was banned, its art man, find subtlety very classy.

    Great review.

  • I was somehow let own with this movie, because I expected a normal exploitation movie. But it really is much more than that and hardly a Horror or genre film in the first place. As a surreal psychological drama it works really well I think.

I'm happy now that I picked up the Subversive Cinema DVD back then. It goes for a pretty penny now. The movie was never released in Germany btw.

Great review of course, Glenn. I really enjoyed the vid!

  • never heard of this film before but it looks very good for a nasty
