This was the last night of a 25-date run from DATAROCK (http://myspace.com/Datarock) and ESSER (http://myspace.com/esserHQ). KAV (http://myspace.com/KAVsonic - formerly of the Happy Mondays) jumped on the tour for the last week of shows along the West Coast.
As is standard, the last night of the tour is subject to shenanigans. In this case Benjamin Esser presents DATAROCK with a special, sexy donut with the word DATACOCK on it. On top of what would have been some regular hazing/practical jokes. The venue was really mishandling the show. Near anarchy the whole night and eventually imploding at 1:30 am with the venue cutting sound to the stage. DATAROCK didn't have time to finish their set.
This is a pretty good example of how NOT to treat a band. This venue was ill equipped to handle this or any show. The sound guy was inept and smelled bad, the promoter showed up very late and added this ridiculously unnecessary "rap" act to the bill that ate up the headliner's set time AND threw water all over the equipment. On top of that they were assholes claiming, "This is OUR town" and other such bullshit. Whatever happened to being a gracious host?
DATAROCK's monitors were going out the whole show and nobody could hear themselves. The sound was so terrible that the band could barely play. This video ends with the death of my camera battery. There is a video of the finale floating around which will hopefully make it online soon.
