@ladyrokujo I still would have grieved, I mean Percy is a right prat and so mean for leaving, but he came back in the end. You're right though, I think that Jo wanted to show that people die in wars, and most of the time, it's people who have families and friends. I think it's just perspective on the whole thing, but I can definitely say that Fred's death broke my heart and it will always break my heart.

@j2theferg I agree with you only partially because you are missing an important point: it's not about The Weasley's grieving, it's about fans grieving after Fred's death. Sure, the family would still feel devastated but at least fans wouldn't. :) Though I think Jo wanted to show us the reality of war, the importance of appreciating a person you love (there's a Polish poem, telling us to "Love people before it's too late: they're gone so quickly."). That's why it was Fred, not Percy, I think.

@AnytimeMagic if I may here... Just because Percy's a right prat for leaving, doesn't mean he should have died. Regardless, the Weasley family would still be grieving. Don't get me wrong, but that was my first thought too "why couldn't it have been Percy?" but I think that no matter who was lost, The Weasley's would still be grieving. Sorry, Nerd moment.
