One of my favorite live recordings of Rigoletto: 29 December 1945 Met broadcast - conducted by Cesare Sodero. Leonard Warren, Jussi Björling, and Bidu Sayao all in their vocal primes.
The Duke and Gilda's Act 1 duet. What fantastic singing by both of them!
More excerpts to come.
Thank you for posting, very beautiful. It's so wonderful that we have a chance to listen to these treasures.

Wonderful post but the opera and scene should have been stated. This recording is American history and culture.

Bjorling and Sayao are quite a team in this music. Add Warren and you have a thrilling night at the opera, particularly if that opera happens to be Verdi's Rigoletto. Bjorling is brilliant as the Duke and Sayao is the type of Gilda Verdi must have dreamed of. There was an embarrassment of riches during this period, for Pons was also a remarkable Gilda, not to mention Schipa and Galli-Curci of the previous generation. Thanks for sharing, GOS!
