The floating necklace is a great technique which has a delicate and elegant appearance. It is called floating necklace because you use crimps to space beads out along the wire, creating an impression of floating. For this technique you use the same materials as the basic strung necklace. Those are tiger tale wire, crimps (you will need many crimps for this technique) and clasp and tag. For tools you will need flat nose pliers and side cutters. For this project, I will be using 8mm round AB dark turquoise firepolished crystals and 6mm round shiny white glass pearls. Firstly, lay your bead design out on your bead board. You can lay them out singly or in groups, as you choose, but make sure to leave gaps between them. For this project we will place the beads in groups of three, a crystal in the centre and one pearl on either side. Generally people like to have regular and accurate gaps between there beads, but others like to have more irregular gaps for a more eclectic look. Attach a clasp to one end of the wire. Then, leaving a gap besides the clasp, flatten a crimp onto the wire. Thread your 2 pearls and 1 crystal onto the wire and push it up to rest besides the crimp. Then flatten another crimp close to the beads on the other side. After this, leave another space along the wire, flatten another crimp and repeat the same process. In essence, you can follow a formula of: space-crimp- beads- crimp- space. When you have reached the other side of the necklace, simply attach the tag and trim the loose tail of wire. As well as on a single strand as we have done here, the floating necklace technique looks spectacular when used on bar ends to create a multi strand necklace.
do you have a website??
