Ten years ago on my sixth birthday my father disappeared. He didnt leave or die it all happened very quietly. On my sixth birthday he took me to the park it was a lonely little park in the middle of no where we were at the edge of the pond feeding the ducks when i heard the jingle of an ice cream truck in the parking lot over the hill. when i begged my dad to get me a creamsicle, he laughed and handed me a few bills and sent me after the truck. That was the last time i ever saw him. My father had disappered...without a trace. My name is Rachel Berry. in less than twenty-four hours ill be sixteen years old. Sweet sixteen when girls become princesses and fall in love and go to prom and such. Countless stories, songs and poems, have been written about being sixteen when a girl finds true love and the stars shine for her and the handsome prince carries her off into the sunset. The day before my birthday i had a plan....to finally get noticed by Scott Waldron. And i wanted to look perfect of course my wardrobe is a little lacking in the popular department i finally slipped into my favorite mudd jeans and a blue t-shirt. I walked into the kitchen to find luke, my stepdad, and ethan, my half brother. sitting at the table
Rachel:"Where's Mom"

Luke ignored me and sipped his coffee while ethan chewed on a pop-tart and sneezed on luke's arm. Sighing i asked again

R:"Where is mom?" i said this a little louder and luke finally looked at me.
L:"oh, hi meg i didnt hear you come in. What did you say?"
R:"where is mom"?
L:"she had a meeting with some of the ladies at church she wont be back for a few hours so you'll have to take the bus.
I always took the bus so this was no suprise to me but i just wanted to remind my mom that she was supposed to take me to get a learners permit. With luke it was different he would forget by the time i left so there was no point reminding him. Beau our german shepahard walked towards me i bent down and scratched him behind the ears and he groaned. Well....at least the dog appreciated me. I headed out to leave for the bus would arrive shortly and i had a good ten minute walk ahead of me.

E:"Rach?" i turned around and ethan was standing there holding his stuffed rabbit that was as flithy as ever. "can i go with you today?"
R:"what?" i started putting on my coat for the clouds did not look promising. "no ethan im going to school now. big kids school no rug rats allowed." Ethan then ran and grabbed my leg
E:"please? i'll be good, i promise. Take me please just for today?
R:" Whats up squirt you are awfully clingy today
E:"Scared"
R:"what you scared of buddy?"
E:"No Flopp's scared" i looked down at his rabbit....and sighed ethan still had childish fears of monsters under the bed and the bogeyman in his closet. If this was ethans world stuffed animals could talk and invisible men would wave at him from the bushes. Ethan rarely went to mom or luke with monster scares, he always came to me.
R:"fine lets go check for monsters"
i grabbed the flashlight that i kept in his room and checked the closet and under his bed with no suprise nothing was there.
R:"see nothing there" as i said that i saw something in his closet it was a gray domed hat with a circular rim and a red ban around the base: a bowler hat. but why would that be there. As i straightened and started to turn around something moved out of the corner of my eye. i caught a glimpse of a figure hiding behind ethan's bedroom door, its pale eyes watching me throught the crack. i jerked my hear around but of course there was nothing there. jeez, now ethan's got me seeing imaginary monsters

I was soaked when i reached the bus stop. of course as i predicted it started to down pour as soon as i left the house. the late spring rain wasnt frigid but it was cold enough to be uncomfortable. so i stood there waiting for the bus to arrive. Wondering were robbie was He was usually here by now. Maybe he didnt feel like getting drenched and stayed home. i rolled my eyes, skipping class again, huh? slacker. wish i could do that. At least i knew that robbie would remember my birthday even if no one else did. i wonder what kooky thing he has planned for tomorrow. A branch snapped in the trees really close. i shifted uncomfortably determined not to turn around for some stupid squirrel or racoon. i leaned against a tree trying to will the bus to appear. and then something reached around the tree and grabbed me. I screamed and leaped away my heart hammering in my ears Whirling around i tensed t run my mind filled with rapists and murderers and leatherface from the texas chainsaw massacre.
