Video Updated - For many decades industry and government resources have battled against seat belts on school buses. Decades of mistraining promoting fear concerning these devices have left their mark on some school bus drivers and their school districts. First Group Greyhound now have belts installed on their coaches and the previous resistance to belts has evaporated. Read in their advertising: "The new Greyhound has been redesigned to ensure the safest ride for our passengers, from large adults to small infants. We've voluntarily equipped each seat with a comfortable three-point safety harness with shoulder-height adjusters. Plus, our new LATCH system can fasten your child's car seat as easily and securely to your seat as you can in your own car." An escalating increase in liability is also happening involving school buses not equipped with at least belts. School districts in 'not' mandated states are moving ahead with the installation of seat belts on new bus purchases. The NHTSA and NASDPTS recently claimed they favor the safety devices while also advocating that the federal government should pay for them.
