The SOG Creed looks to be an outsanding rust-resistant woods knife that will chop and spit wood with authority. In some ways, it lends capabilities to the SOG line that have been lacking in fulfilling these survival roles. Many of the SOG blades are impressive but are mostly purpose built fighters. The Creed retains the coolness and heredity of that storied SOG Fixed Blade line but seems to step up in wilderness capability while retaining the excellent SOG ergos. Sharing the SOG Tech-Bowie grip, the knife inherits the same grip functionality of that blade (previously reviewed in TNP). The Kraton grip, while a little short (would prefer ½ to 1 inch extra), provides excellent traction, good looks, functional double SS guard, and a hammering-capable pommel with SOGs proprietary cylinder nut. The 12.6 oz 7.5 inch blade is made out of a slab of impressively thick (¼ !) AUS8 steel which should exhibit good corrosion resistance, edge holding, ease of sharpening, toughness since it possesses the usually decent SOG heat treatment. The blade shape is unusual and striking and wears a beautiful Scotchbrite finish. Its dramatic upward sweep gives the design outstanding belly for utility, skinning, and wilderness craft tasks should the blade meet such. The heft and forward balance of this blade are impressive and should allow the Creed to greatly exceed the woods capabilities of many of the other SOG fighters (like the Tech Bowie, Gov-Tac, Agent, SOG Bowie, Trident 2.0, SEAL Team, Agency, and even the Fixation to name a few). The finely crafted black leather sheath wears the SOG logo proudly and it is a nod to the sometimes traditional ways of SOG and their heritage. I like the split security strap which interfaces with the double guard nicely. Expect the leather sheath to migrate on the belt though as its loop is traditional and as such offers no lockdown. The sheath then is good looking and matches the looks well but for pure functionality, a Kydex quick-attach offering along the lines of that of the Tech Bowie, would be superior in the wet woods. But it is very possible that most Creeds will never see such duty. Instead, with its outstanding fit and finish and somewhat higher price tag (about $140 as of Aug 2009), it will be a collectible for most purchasers. But should one wish to put the Creed in role, it stands ready for such hard service and will provide unflinching capabilities as a chopper, splitter, food preparer, and, if pushed, as a defensive blade as well. Exceptional quality, good looks, excellent chopping skills, and razor sharp: the Creed is a breed apart in the SOG line. /////////////////////// Nutnfancy Likeability Scale for SOG Creed: 8 of 10 /////////////// Music from www.partnersinrhyme

  • @BladesNstuffs wrong sog was making knives for the sog force in the 60 s and made knives for the civilians in 1989

  • @ENGLISHDOGSOLDIER I do "sword fighting" and "knife fighting" as a European martial art.

The first time you will know someone has stabbed you is when you start passing out through lack of blood.

By the time that "blade" breaks your sheath it's TOO LATE you have been stabbed.

    Grow up and face reality.

  • I'll be honest her and say a knife does not make a man.

When I was 21 I saw one man almost cut another man's head off with a large smashed bottle taped to his arm.

If you hunt or NEED a knife quality counts and any good kitchen knife or better a machete will do the job.

As for "fighting blade" who knife fights?

Do you get in a knife fight?

Or are most "knife fights" just stabbings with NO fight involved?

You can jump another human with a rock you will NOT get into a knife fight EVER!

  • @shawn4201111 Sog wasn't even a company till the 90s

  • you should make a top 5 survival knifes

  • Hahaha about 140 bucks? Seriously!?

Dunno how many Australian views you have Nutn, but that blade would set me back 300+ USD here in Aus...
