Ponderings on Time Travel (2008)

The title alludes to a recent interest in contemporary theories about parallel universes and quantum physics. Acknowledging the possibility that we may all be in various places at the same time or that past, present and future may occur simultaneously I devised these short animations as a way of investigating imagined outcomes of a meeting with myself. It is through these encounters that another strand of interest emerges in my current work and that is to do with the relationships we have and maintain with ourselves, the way we keep ourselves company, the way we argue with ourselves, how we encourage our inner beings to keep on moving. The film plays in a loop thus reinforcing through every cycle, the various schizophrenic tendencies into which we all fall.
This is my latest exploration of the type of media used. Over the past couple of years I have been investigating how a performance for camera translates into animation, how a series of digital photographs documenting choreographed movement can be further manipulated to conceive the impossible and to give life to what has already passed by infusing them with scored sound.
The film was intended to be listened with headphones so the inner voices appeared clearly in different sides of the aural soundscape, some voices would be very close to the left or to the right, giving space to the various inner voices we play to ourselves.
