@MrJcman100 I have noticed that no two Afrikaners sound the same. My girlfriend is from South Africa, but one grandparent is english and another is italian. She's lived in the UK for almost 4 years now and has lost a lot of her accent, her friends back home mock her for sounding british. And yes, Mandella would sound FUBAR if he talked like that haha

@elsparx True but it's a misconception that really pisses them off. :) There are also almost as many English speaking South Africans that don't speak like that at all. I suppose since they have 11 official languages it's a very diverse country culturally. Imagine if Nelson Mandela opened his moth and spoke like that! Ha ha!

@MrJcman100 You're forgetting one thing, most people outside of South Africa don't spea xhosa or zulu or any of the other languages that are spoken, so English speaking Afrikaners are who westerners mainly associate with South Africa. I thought it was a majority accent until my girlfriend corrected me.

Wow, I lived in South Africa for 18 years and that was by far a minority accent. You really should call it an Afrikaner accent as the majority of South Africans don't sound like that at all. Only about 13% of them speak Afrikaans as a home language.

Only Afrikaans people trying to speak English sound like that get your facts straight boet
Why do people keep calling an Afrikaans accent a South African accent? English speaking South Africans don't sound like that at all.
