XS650 Yamaha motor washdown. Engine overhaul, repair prep.

I prepare my Yamaha XS650 motor for overhaul. This is the washing stage after partial disassembly. The engine will get a bath then inspection. I will clean or replace the filter, check the oil pump, do some paint and polish then get ready to put it back together. This one will get new pistons and rings at 4th oversize. Lets see if I feel the power.

Great video dude. When you get round to painting the crank case. What paint do you use and do you clear coat it afterwards ? Also do you clear coat the cylinder head after you paint them ?

@dogeater28uk No clear coat. Aluminum motor paint on the crankcase (duplicolor) and VHT barrel paint on the cylinders. The VHT paint is not gas proof regaurdless of what they say so be careful with and fuel leaks you have. The paint will wash off. the aluminum holds up well but chips easy.

When you rotate the crank the rods will go into the block far enough that nothing is sticking above the gasket surface.
