Peter Gabriel sings San Jacinto on the Open Air Stage at WOMAD 2009, Charlton Park on Saturday 25th July 2009. The song reflects on the fear and pain experienced by a Native American man who sees his culture overwhelmed by modern white society.
@acstudios2 This is an interesting point. "Gabrielese" is a device PG uses when he's still forming lyrics - see his "no-words" performance of 'Indigo' ("Peter Gabriel's First Show (Part 4)"). However, San Jacinto has had fully-formed lyrics for 30 years, and I can tell you this ain't Gabrielese. This is him being absent-minded, which is why he usually has a lyrics autocue on stage. PG has confessed to not being good with lyrics. He's my hero, but I'm allowed to get annoyed with him.
@AnthonyArundel if u knew your music history, it is quite common musicians who have been at it for 40+ years like Peter often adjust or even hedge lyrics as they search new avenues...even in songs us observers view as staples to their set lists
This is my favourite PG song and I love the man but for the past few years he just sounds half-asleep whenever he's performing. He still has the range and the power but he really just sounds like he hasn't slept in two days.
It is pretty amazing that he can still sing like this at 60 though.
I agree with Anthony, I have followed Peter around for some time and I was bitterly dissapointed with his performance at WOMAD after losing count of the times he would come in late or forget words. Such a shame because when he is on form he is amazing.
Excuse my rant; he's my favourite musician, but I genuinely feel he's letting everyone who goes to his concerts down. He needs to lock himself in a room with his own lyrics for 48 hours and nail them.

I agree, he can do so much better...he's still young enough...he needs to get the passion back.
