Saw the original band on their first UK tour - still have fond memories. I was also at a later Stanley Clarke gig at Birmingham Town Hall when the neck broke off his double bass when it slipped from his grip - the silence which followed was tangible...
@cyclone840527 I hear ya. I wish I'd have spent the $. I knew it would be great even without AL.
I saw them in their heyday twice in late 70s early 80s. I've seen solo Chic solo AL and solo Stanley twice
and got to play with Stanley at the Granada theater in 84. THAT was cool!!! I even saw Stanley with Keith Richards+New Barbarians. After about an hour of jamming the crowd was bored until Stan ripped into a 10 min solo. Blew everyone away! There R many greats but to me Stanley's the best.
I've already commented on another one of these great vids, but I saw you guys' show in Davis, CA (9/21) last night - my GF gifted me tickets for my birthday - and hands down one of the best concerts I've ever seen, period. I've been listening to you guys since the late 70s and all I wanted to do when I got home was practice my guitar. We who appreciate music appreciate the art you guys have brought to the world for decades. Thanks!
I have to amend my post from last week to say that I saw them last night at L.A.'s Greek Theater—and these guys are absolutely the best! Yeah, they didn't play my all-time favorite "Song to John Part II" but they did do a great rendition of Ponty's hauntingly beautiful "Renaissance." Still wish they'd do "Romantic Warrior" less "fragmented" but oh well.
I couldn't help but notice the WIDE range of demographics among the crowd—age-wise, ethnicity—these guys have universal magic!
Saw them tonite (9/14) in Grand Prairie/Dallas. Simply amazing w/ fantastic contributions all around. Such diversity. Such range. Show was intense and long and they left nothing behind. Crowd was awesome and crowd/band interaction was really good too. Don't miss them if you can help it!
Certainly not taking away from these amazing players, but it seems to have lost it's punch, vitality and intensity. Too fragmented and "loose." Just my opinion.
